Where does Berkey come from?

Berkey systems are designed in the United States by New Millennium Concepts. Our shop, berkey.shop, is an authorised Berkey retailer in Europe. Berkey systems were originally developed to address issues of access to drinking water, particularly in the context of humanitarian actions and situations where infrastructure is limited.

Berkey technology is based on a combination of complementary processes: a physical action through microporous surface cartridges, combined with purification by adsorption and microfiltration. This approach relies in particular on the use of coconut carbon and ionised silver, enabling effective gravity filtration without electricity or pressure.

According to the manufacturer, Black Berkey elements filter tap water but also other fresh water sources, such as rainwater, lake, river or well water. Phoenix Gravity elements, on the other hand, are for mains water only. No Berkey element is suitable for seawater.

Convinced by the effectiveness, durability and philosophy of these systems, we chose to fully commit to their distribution.
